Reserving Hotel Reservations for Arab Students

I used to work in a travel company in New York. They are called wholesale travel. There were reservations for overseas Europe and elsewhere.

When I was told about the job the lady told me that the Arabs would sometimes send a reservation back that they didn't think was good enough. She said to watch out for it and it could take a while to look for it. It is not to pick on them it is just what happened. She also told me that for instance, most students would back out of the Westin hotel there in New York because it was too expensive.

I did pretty well on reservations and they usually accepted what I had. They could request a hotel from the list or ask for something else. If they didn't ask it was my choice.

For the Arabs I would pick the most expensive hotel I could find. I guess they were wealthy. They would take the reservation.

Renewed Protests Call

Opposition to the president in Iran had asked for a new protest. It asked the public to come out and march with them.

I have seen a man on a blog here say he actually doesn't see as much of a protest as before. He saw a few people in the streets rioting. They are saying in Iran that the numbers are increasing actually. Because they believe the election to be false they are continuing in their reaction to attempt to stop what is happening. They couldn't after with all of the police and guards out.

There is a post on Twitter from a woman saying she will die then. I have seen that on another blog that maybe she will die that day. It may be a romantic idea that they will have to die for the cause.

The only way sometimes that something is done is to have people do something and to be willing to put themselves in harm's way. I have seen something on another news site saying that women are in the front line. They are refusing to stop and be beaten down. It is too bad if all of this is done for nothing. If it will continue there may be reason for them to fight. If it is not going anywhere they will need to know when to stop. It is up to them the people in Iran. The election was up to them. Naturally they are angry if their vote has not really been counted.

If as another man was saying, the president they have now actually has a lot of support, I am not seeing any counter protest forming now to defy the people that are protesting. Maybe he could summon them as they say. There are always two sides to a matter.

I have seen a woman in New York before years ago telling me about their president and how they did not want him to be speaking at the UN. It was sort of ridiculous having him there.

Pres. Sardosky Talk on Banning the Burka

Nicolas Sarkozy delivers a speech during a congress at Versailles Palace

The French President Sardosky made a speech about the possible burka, Muslim head to to dress ban that they are looking into. He wants a separation between church and state. The best thing to do is to look at the article to see what he is saying. I think it is fair. I myself think it's a good idea. I wish they would do it in the US or at least attempt to do something about it. He wants it to be also because the woman doesn't really want to wear it. He is concerned about it taking away her rights. It will be about freedom of choice. Pres. Sardosky is letting himself in for a debate with it but I think it is a good idea. I think it is a good idea they have the scarf ban in schools.

The difficult thing is how are they going to tell if a woman is possibly beaten for not wearing one? She won't be able to tell them and then would have to go home. I think many don't mind wearing it. It gives them something different to wear and it is like a costume. It is actually like dragging it in people's faces. Some feel as if they can't go without it probably. I've seen them say that they like wearing it. They can be proud of it as being part of their heritage and religion.

It lends an old fashioned air to the office to me and it is oppressive. It can also be exciting to them because then it comes off. They are hidden underneath and it is a mystery. So it makes them mysterious. Some of the guys think it's fine it's different. One in the picture that they are showing in the article looks like lingerie on her.

I was a temp in the French office in NY. I think they are a little angry with me and I with them. But it is ok really I think.

If not that I wish they would at least give them a talk about other garments to wear. You know also since if others are in Arab countries they need to cover up I don't know why we should make exceptions for them. It think they are in another country and should dress right just to be polite. They don't have to go around in mini skirts.

Another thing about the dress code like in banks I don't think is fair is they are standing there like that with a full outfit on to the floor and others aren't supposed to wear a long skirt. If I wanted to do that I couldn't. So I don't think it is fair. We are also not supposed to wear head coverings. The exception is for "religious" reasons. I don't really need to wear a head covering but i think it is annoying.

It was also in the case of the girls from Afghanistan very much not being getting used to our culture in the United States. Their guys, like others from countries that are seeing men as very important, then also see other women not in a covered outfit as not dressing right. They want them to be all covered up and if they are not they could have an attitude. If they have the attitude that women have to have a head covering in their old country than they do it in France or another country also. Allowing them to dress like that enforces the idea that it is important to them.

I see it and others do also as a problem because you can't identify them. There was a thing going on in the US where a woman wouldn't take it off for her driver's license. Others would have to. How could one identify her and that would be the point of it? Also what if she were going to commit a crime? Things could be hidden under it. It is what you look for in security work. You are supposed to stop someone who is wearing a coat for instance, and it is hot.

A man could even be disguised in a burka type of dress. They said they had found out they were going to use Jewish disguises they thought the terrorists may have planned an attack like that in NYC.

Taliban Man on Right Wing Radio after 9/11

I started listening to the radio for the news after 9/11 to the talk shows. They were on AM. Many of them are right wing type of shows. They seemed ok. All the shows right then were discussing 9/11.

Later there was a Taliban man on one of the shows. It was very funny, it was quite a breakup for the day. The radio host was teasing him and asking him questions. He was very serious or it seemed like it. I don't think it was a joke. One of the talk shows was a joke show and made up voices like Phil Henry is his name. I don't think it was that one.

It was funny for a little while anyway. He asked him and he said he was working for them to help his country. So it was an interview. It wasn't a scheduled interview, he had called in to the show.

Mrs. Mousavi of Iran - Opposition Candidate

Iran election

The opposition candidate's wife, Mrs. Mousavi in Iran. I wonder how modern she really is. It would be nice if they would stop using the scarf. I really think it is too backward and from another century. It is centuries back and it shouldn't have been going on then. It is going back to when there were slaves of the Arabs. Unfortunately, there may still be that going on.

It is part of what is holding them back. It is too old fashioned.

Meeting Iran Girl Protest for Her President at UN

IranÕs Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says end protests

My post from before I'd put on Newsvine. It got on the front page somehow. I think they really need news.

This is going to be short. I don't really know much about it or what is happening there. I see that they have been setting fires. They don't seem to have been too happy about these elections. Other people may actually have backed their old president.

I had also read that the young people were getting tired of it. They can't afford their own apartment. But I don't really hear much about unrest.

I was thinking about the girl from Iran that I saw with their street protest when their president from Iran was going to be visiting the UN. I thought it was not too good myself also but there was not anything I could do about it. She came up to me especially. She had the burka on I think it is. She told me how he was going to be at the UN. She seemed to think that I should be upset about it too and as if I could do something. She told me how he wasn't very good. She wanted him to be stopped from talking there and being there. Unfortunately, there was not much I or anyone else there could do even if I wanted to. I knew she was very upset about it all. They seemed to want to get rid of him. They wanted help. They were on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street in New York about. Believe me if I could do anything about it I would. I just had worked temp in the UN.

I myself I more or less might believe what they were saying at first that he was part of the taking of US prisoners that happened in Iran a time ago. Maybe it was not. He is just a character to me anyway.

It certainly would be nice if they could do something with their government and the backward ideas. The young may get tired of it all. It is a game for older people.

Is it my imagination or does their president look like the little guy shooter from Killshot?

Talking to American Reporter Who Went to Arab Country

When I was selling on one of my jobs I met a reporter who had been to one of the Arab countries. This was before 9/11. I think it was either Iran or Iraq. Who even thought of the difference then unless they needed or wanted to know? He had also talked about being an author.

He talked about going to the country and needing a car. He was talking about renting one when he met a couple of Arab guys. They told him he could take their car that they had and use it. "Go ahead and use it if you are going to report," they said. He thought they wanted him to be able to report on their side on what it was about and wanted him to have a car.

I was thinking then I was afraid of what could happen. It was more or less not a serious thing back then.
